How to Play Wordle Unlimited
Wordle is the word-guessing game that swept the world in 2022. You have 6 tries to guess a hidden 5-letter word. After each guess, every letter gets coloured:
- 🟩 Green — the letter is in the word AND in the right position.
- 🟨 Yellow — the letter is in the word but in a different position.
- ⬜ Gray — the letter is not in the word at all.
That's it. Six guesses. One word. Pure deduction.
Why Wordle is harder than it looks
You're not just guessing a word — you're managing information. Every guess is both a stab at the answer AND a question about which letters appear. Beginners try to win on guess 2; experts treat guesses 1 and 2 as scouting missions and guess 3 as the first real attempt.
The optimal opening strategy
The most efficient first word covers the 5 most common letters in Wordle answers: E, A, R, O, T plus high-frequency consonants. Good openers:
- CRANE — picked by the official "Wordlebot" as the mathematically best opener.
- SLATE — covers S, L, A, T, E.
- CRATE — same letters, slightly different position.
- RAISE — strong on vowels.
- AUDIO — maxes out vowel coverage but weak on consonants.
Pick one and stick with it. Consistency builds pattern recognition.
What to play second
Your second word should cover 5 entirely different letters from your first. Common second-word picks paired with CRANE:
- POULT, MOULD, DOUBT — cover D, O, U, M, P
- BUILD — covers B, U, I, L, D
- GHOST — covers G, H, O, S, T
After two guesses you've tested 10 letters — usually enough to lock down the word.
When to commit
By guess 3 you should commit to the answer pattern. If your information suggests 2 or 3 candidate words, pick the one that places untested letters in the most informative positions.
A common mistake
Repeating known-bad (gray) letters. If a letter came back gray on guess 2, it is NOT in the word. Don't accidentally include it in guess 3 because you're chasing a hunch.
Hard mode (mental discipline)
Try this rule: every guess after the first must use every green letter in its correct position, and every yellow letter somewhere. It's how purists play Wordle and it makes you a much sharper solver.
Streak chasing
The thrill of Wordle isn't winning one game — it's running a streak. Once you're at 10 wins in a row, every game feels heavier. Play carefully, use your second guess to gather information, and don't gamble on guess 3 unless you're certain.
