Gun Strike

4.9(2,388 ratings)·2.4M plays·action

Gun Strike is a fast-paced top-down arena shooter. Move, aim, and blast through endless waves of enemy stickmen who shoot back. Pick up new weapons — SMG, shotgun, rifle — duck behind crates for cover, and face a boss every 5 waves. Twin-stick controls on mobile, mouse-aim on desktop. Free, no download, no signup.

Controls

Move with WASD or the left joystick. Aim with the mouse (hold left-click to fire) or the right joystick (auto-fires while aimed). Walk over weapon and health drops to grab them. Space or empty mag = reload. Esc to pause.

Tips & Strategy

  • Keep moving — standing still lets enemies surround you and gunners line up easy shots. Strafe constantly.
  • Use crates as cover. Enemy bullets can't pass through them, so peek out, fire, and duck back.
  • Grab the rifle for bosses (huge per-shot damage) and the SMG or shotgun for swarms of rushers.
  • Don't run dry mid-fight — reload (Space) during a lull, not when three rushers are on top of you.
  • Rushers don't shoot — they melee. Kite them in circles and gun them down before they reach you.
  • Gunners hold their distance and snipe. Close the gap behind cover or flank them — don't trade shots in the open.
  • Bosses arrive every 5 waves with huge HP. Circle-strafe, use cover, and unload your strongest weapon.

How to Play Gun Strike — The Top-Down Arena Shooter

Gun Strike is a top-down arena shooter where you battle endless waves of enemy stickmen. Move, aim, shoot, dodge incoming fire, grab better weapons, and survive as long as you can. It's pure twin-stick action — easy to pick up, satisfying to master.

The core loop

  1. Move to dodge enemies and incoming bullets.
  2. Aim and fire at the enemy stickmen swarming you.
  3. Grab weapon and health drops to power up.
  4. Survive the waves — they get bigger and tougher, with a boss every 5 waves.

The controls

Gun Strike is a twin-stick shooter, which means movement and aiming are independent:

  • Move: WASD / arrow keys (desktop) or the left joystick (mobile).
  • Aim + Fire: mouse + hold left-click (desktop) or the right joystick (mobile — auto-fires while pointed).
  • Reload: Space, or automatically when your mag empties.
  • Pick up: walk over weapon and health drops.

The twin-stick scheme is what makes the genre so satisfying — you can run one direction while shooting another, kiting enemies in circles as you mow them down.

The weapons

You start with a pistol and can pick up three more, each suited to different situations:

  • 🔫 Pistol — balanced starter. Reliable but not powerful.
  • 🔫 SMG — rapid fire, big magazine. Shreds swarms of rushers.
  • 💥 Shotgun — 6 pellets per shot, devastating up close, weak at range.
  • 🎯 Rifle — huge per-shot damage, slow fire. The boss-killer.

Switch weapons by walking over the drops enemies leave behind. Bosses always drop a weapon.

The enemies

Three enemy types plus bosses, each with different behaviour:

  • Grunt (grey) — basic enemy that chases and shoots occasionally.
  • Rusher (pink) — fast melee enemy that doesn't shoot — it charges you. Kite it.
  • Gunner (purple) — holds its distance and snipes. Flank it or use cover.
  • Boss (red, every 5 waves) — massive HP, rapid fire. Circle-strafe and unload.

Using cover

The arena is scattered with wooden crates. Enemy bullets can't pass through them. Use this:

  • Peek out from behind a crate, fire, then duck back before the return fire lands.
  • Put a crate between you and a gunner to break their line of sight.
  • Funnel rushers around crates so they have to take the long way to you.

Cover is the difference between surviving wave 10 and dying on wave 4.

The strategy that wins

1. Never stop moving

The instant you stand still, enemies surround you and gunners line up clean shots. Strafe in wide circles, always relocating.

2. Kite the swarm

Enemies follow you, so lead them into a line and mow them down as they chase. Don't let them encircle you — keep them all on one side.

3. Match the weapon to the threat

  • Swarm of rushers → SMG or shotgun (high fire rate / spread).
  • Gunners at range → rifle or pistol (accuracy).
  • Boss → rifle (raw damage), then circle-strafe.

4. Reload smart

Reloading leaves you defenceless for a second. Do it during a lull — right after clearing a group, never with enemies closing in.

5. Manage health

Health drops are precious. Don't grab one at full HP — leave it on the field and come back when you're hurt. You heal a little between waves automatically.

Boss waves

Every 5th wave spawns a boss with roughly 15× a normal enemy's HP and rapid fire. Strategy:

  • Keep circling — the boss is slow but hits hard. Never stand in front of it.
  • Use cover to break its line of fire while you reposition.
  • Unload your best weapon — the rifle's high damage melts boss HP fastest.
  • Grab the drops it leaves on death — health plus a weapon to prep for the next wave.

Why top-down shooters are so addictive

The twin-stick shooter is one of the most replayable action formats:

  • Pure skill expression — your survival is 100% your movement and aim.
  • Escalating tension — every wave is denser than the last.
  • Build variety — which weapons you grab shapes each run.
  • "One more wave" — you always feel like you could push one wave further.

Gun Strike runs on pure Canvas 2D for smooth 60 FPS on any device, with full twin-stick touch controls on mobile and mouse-aim on desktop. No download, no signup — just load and fight.

Tips for a high score

  • Movement is 80% of the game. Master the strafe.
  • Always keep a crate nearby for emergency cover.
  • Save the rifle for boss waves.
  • Reload in the gaps between groups, never mid-fight.
  • Don't get greedy chasing drops into the swarm.

Frequently asked questions

How do I shoot in Gun Strike?+

On desktop, aim with your mouse and hold left-click to fire continuously. On mobile, use the right joystick — your character auto-fires in whatever direction you point it. The left joystick (or WASD on desktop) handles movement, so it's a true twin-stick shooter.

How do I get better weapons?+

Enemies sometimes drop weapon crates when killed, and bosses always drop one. Walk over the drop to instantly equip it. You start with a pistol; the SMG, shotgun, and rifle each suit different situations — SMG for swarms, shotgun for close range, rifle for bosses.

What happens on boss waves?+

Every 5th wave is a boss wave. A large red boss with massive HP and rapid fire spawns. Defeat it and it drops health plus a weapon. Use cover and circle-strafe — never stand still in front of a boss.
